Public details: There is a documentary about the amazing history of this film made in 1924, heavily edited, hidden during war time, many versions got destroyed or were lost. Over time, bits surfaced. in 2010 it was re-released again in the closest version to Fritz Lang's original. THIS IS A STUNNING MOVIE with amazing footage for 1924 let alone now without any computer generated stuff. If you like films and film history, this is a monumental film to see. "With its dizzying depiction of a futuristic cityscape and alluring female robot, Metropolis is among the most famous of all German films and the mother of sci-fi cinema. Directed by the legendary Fritz Lang, its jaw-dropping production values, iconic imagery, and modernist grandeur remain as powerful as ever. Drawing on — and defining — classic sci-fi themes, Metropolis depicts a dystopian future in which society is thoroughly divided in two: while anonymous workers conduct their endless drudgery below ground their rulers enjoy a decadent life of leisure and luxury. (153 minutes) The version we are screening is a 2010 restoration, with the complete score composed between 2014 – 2018 and performed by David DiDonato, his score ranges stylistically between classical piano, shoegaze, dance/electronic, organ fugues, black metal, and industrial."
